When it comes to food safety, RIKILT – Institute of Food Safety is the expert in the field of analytical chemistry.
Our advanced research methods enable us to unravel the chemical composition of materials.
We can identify the substances and the amounts of each substance present in a sample.

We search for the presence of veterinary drug residues, growth enhancers, natural toxins, pesticides and contaminants, particularly in the food chain and in environmental samples where relevant.
This analysis includes an investigation (looking for illegal or unlawful use of illegal substances) and an analysis of samples in line with regular enforcement procedures.

Most of the methods used are based on analytical-chemical techniques with an emphasis on LC and GC (xGC) in combination with various MS techniques. Rapid screening methods based on microbiological and/or immunochemical techniques are also deployed.

In addition to analyses, new methods are also developed and validated.
