The analysis and modelling of agricultural production chains for both animals and plants is an important part of RIKILT’s activities, and we have broad expertise in the field of chain research. Our study of food safety risks in chains considers the point of entry of potential risks into the chain and the mechanism through which the risks are augmented or reduced in the chain perspective. We optimise the management and neutralisation of risks in chains and carry out research into early warning systems that concentrate on faster detection of risk indicators. In addition, we analyse (private) quality control systems and their application in chain contexts.
The cataloguing, interpretation and implementation of international legislation and standards is also part of our tasks. Furthermore, we also focus on training and consulting (in the Netherlands, Indonesia and Thailand, among others) relative to the management and securing of food safety aspects in agricultural chains.
