Within the field of immunochemistry, RIKILT is developing methods for the fast measuring of contaminants such as veterinary drugs residue, (environmental) contaminants and (allergenic) proteins in food production chains.

The research concentrates on assays that are applicable both within and outside the laboratory. In addition to special assays based on specific antibodies, we also develop assays that focus on groups of substances [based on generic antibodies and transport proteins.

ELISA
In performing analyses we, on a regular basis, use the ELISA screening tests, which can be quickly and easily deployed. An ELISA method for chloramphenicol using very specific antibodies was developed by RIKILT. This test, which allows traces of banned veterinary drugs to be quickly detected in meat or fish, has been launched commercially and is currently being used worldwide.
